SPRING HORSE CARE CHECKLIST

Spring feels like a fresh start, but it also brings its share of challenges. Melted snow and steady rain can turn pastures into muddy stretches that can stress hooves and increase the risk of skin infections. Make it a priority to improve drainage where you can and limit turnout in heavily saturated areas. Providing dry footing in high traffic zones, such as near gates and water troughs, help prevent thrush and soft soles.

5. Check for cuts, ticks, or skin conditions

And don’t’ forget ….. fencing and shelter inspections also make the checklist in early spring. Winter storms can weaken boards, loosen posts, or damage run-in sheds. Walk the perimeter of each pasture, making repairs before horses have the chance to test weak spots. A safe environment gives you peace of mind and prevents injuries that could easily derail the season.
